ITINERARY
Day 1: Arrival in Tunis
Warm welcome at the airport of Tunis. Transfer to the hotel. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.
Day 2: Tunis - Sbeitla
After breakfast we will visit Carthage. Originally a settlement of Phoenician colonists, Carthage grew into a vast economic and political power throughout the Mediterranean Sea, accumulating wealth and influence through its economic (trading) prowess. Carthage was a major power of the Mediterranean, contemporaneously with the Roman Republic of the 2nd and 3rd century BC, and was its rival for dominance of the western Mediterranean. Afterwards we continue to Sidi Bou Said, Dougga and Sbeitla, the antique Sufetua. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel in Sbeitla.
Day 3: Sbeitla - Tozeur
In the morning we drive over Kasserine to the oase Gafsa, with its over 100.000 palms, olive trees, cactus and fig trees, a fertile garden. Continuation to Tozeur and visit of the Roman Castell. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel in Tozeur.
Day 4: Tozeur - Gabes
Today we will cross El Djerid, a desiccated salt sea. Afterwards we will visit Matmata. These troglodyte "homes" consist of a courtyard, 5 to 10 meters deep from which a labyrinth of small rooms for sleeping, grain storage and family gatherings are cut into the soft rock and interconnected by narrow passageways. Then we drive to Gabes, an oasis which lies next to the sea side. Dinner and overnight stay in Gabes.
Day 5: Gabes
This day is dedicated for visiting Berber villages near Gabes. Here we will see the old tradition and way of life of the Berber way of life. Dinner and overnight stay in Gabes.
Day 6: Gabes - Sousse
The way continues along the Golf to Sfax, the second biggest town in Tunisia. We will visit the Medina with its mosque. Afterwards we continue to Monasti where we will see an imposing Ribat tower over a modern resort complex and the result is amazingly harmonious. Then the tour ends in Sousse, the pearl of the Sahel. Phoenicians, Romans, Byzantines and Arabs settled in this lovely "fertile city" each leaving their imprint and heritage. Dinner and overnight stay in Sousse.
Day 7: Sousse – Kairouan - Tunis
After breakfast the way goes to An hour drive from Sousse, discover Kairouan "the city of 50 mosques" . The spiritual home of all Tunisians, the city itself rises like a dream of ocher and tawny beige, serene in its 13 centuries of Islamic culture, authentic and proud of the wondrous beauty of its mosques, the symphony of its columns and arches, the exquisite delicacy of the stone work. Then we continue to Tunis. Dinner and overnight stay in Tunis.
Day 8: Departure from Tunis
After breakfast check-out at the hotel, transfer to the airport and flight back home. |
